Greige - The New Neutral

By now, you've probably heard the term "greige" used when it comes to interior design. In case you haven't heard, greige is used to describe a "new" color that is taking over homes across the globe. It's a mix between gray and beige - ultimately the perfect neutral.

Greige is possibly the coziest color we've ever laid our eyes on. The most common use of greige is obviously paint. It brings this earthy, warm feel to any room, and you can decorate with any accent color under the sun because it's so versatile. At Woodmaster Woodworks, we like to think outside the box. So, we've gathered some of our favorite unique uses of greige that are NOT walls...

Greige floors. If you can't decide between light or dark floors, go with greige. When choosing a floor color, keep in mind that there will most likely be a lot of it. It needs to be pleasing to the eye and match almost anything. If you're looking for a modern floor color, greige is your best choice, and there are so many variations of it!

Greige furniture is timeless. Especially if you have a stone fireplace in your living room, griege couches, chairs, and pillows will match perfectly. Griege is a stoney and earthy color, so if you're having trouble picking a color scheme for your living room, and you want it to feel welcoming, you can't go wrong with this new classic.

Last but not least, we love these griege kitchen cabinets. To stand out from the white cabinets trend, choose this gorgeous tone with black hardware. It's totally different from your traditional cabinets, but safe at the same time. Greige cabinets are a fool proof way to cozy up your kitchen. We hope you enjoyed reading the Woodmaster Woodworks blog! See you next time.

Innovative Built-In Ideas

We know everyone has seen built-in bookcases, entertainment centers and mudrooms. So here is a series of innovative built-ins that we thought were very creative and useful. These tend to leave you thinking...

"Why didn't I think of that?!"

Why just have recessed panels when you can use them to hide your books! This is just like in the movies when people reveal the hidden rooms by pulling a book, only you reveal the book by pulling the wall! This is great because it hides the clutter, and you can double the use for the space by hanging photos or dry-erase boards on the panels!

This picture has been circling the internet for some time now, but no matter how many times we see it, I think I can speak for everyone when I say - I WANT THIS IN MY HOUSE! What a great use of space!

I love this one! If there isn't enough room for a cabinet, or cabinets aren't going with your style in a small bathroom, try recessed cabinets! It's great because the room is there behind the sink (thanks to plumbing) and it adds more space to your room! Plus, those nosey friends and family members will struggle to find what you're "hiding".

Ok, I need this one. How great would it be to climb into the bathtub and have everything you need at your fingertips, and get out without leaving a mess? I don't like clutter in the corners, and with this design, you can hide all the shampoo and body wash bottles when you're done. Easy-peasy.

My laundry room is tiny and very difficult to organize. This is a terrific idea! Utilizing the doors, this person added built-ins on the doors and a shelf above the washer and dryer to come up with the most space-saving and ingenious design that is practical for any house!

I want this in my house! Save space by installing this cutting board inside one of your cabinets - now you can pull it out when you need it, and store it when you don't. Or, just use it for added counter space when you're busy in the kitchen!

Here's another ingenious idea for a staircase. No more wasted space under the stairs. This guy actually has a movable island that he uses as a wet bar. This would also be a great idea for a craft island - pull it out when you're working, and slide it away when you're done!

Unique Projects to Inspire any Home to Distinction

What makes a house a home? Family, décor, design perhaps. Lets take that one step further. What makes a home a dream home? Is it truly size, location, cost as so many are led to believe. I feel that it is in the details of the home that appeals to you, its sense of style or design, and certain qualities that this home possesses that make it your dream home. Some homes are almost that dream home and just lack that one more special touch to complete it and make it absolute. That is where companies such as Woodmaster Woodworks come in to add that special project.

Wrap Center for Craft Room

If you are crafty and have need of a craft room to complete your dream home, this is a great addition to your room. If you are not fortunate enough to give an entire room to crafts, this is still a nice space saving idea that could be built anywhere to keep your wrappings together for all the birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and other gift wrap we collect.

3 Child Desk

Any parent of 3 children close in age will tell you of the struggles of space and homework time among other things. This next idea addresses two problems uniquely in a beautiful desk built for 3 children to work together without disruption and adds beauty to your home at the same time.

Secret Passage Way

The secret passage way makes you think of castles and hidden treasures. They are still utilized in homes today. They can be built as part of a library to access another room or as a door way built in. On the outside, you will see a bookshelf or built in simply decorated, the door way can be done with elaborate trim work to really highlight your bookshelf beautifully. On the inside another room, or possibly a secret room filled with treasures.

Ring in the New Year with Organization!

With the arrival of 2014, New Year's resolutions are sure to be on everyone's mind.  If your New Year's resolution is to get organized, here are a few ways to accomplish that.

1.  Desks

Desks with multiple drawers, file cabinets, and storage spaces can be the perfect solution to cleaning up the clutter.  We all know that paperwork can cause a lot of headaches.  However, a custom desk with multiple compartments for paperwork can help you maintain your composure and excess papers.

2. Built-Ins

Custom built-ins can give you added space for your family's newly acquired board games, TVs, DVDs, and any other gifts or treasures that were received during the holiday season.  Rather than trying to find ways to fit everything in the old and cramped spaces, a custom built-in can help you organize your new belongings while keeping them accessible for any occasion.

3. Custom Spaces

A custom space may be the ideal solution for getting organized and maintaining the clutter.  Designating a certain area to indulge in your latest hobby can help to eliminate the mess by providing a home for any item (i.e.- art supplies, craft supplies, etc.).  You can customize the space by adding cabinetry, built-ins, a desk, or even a curio cabinet to display your favorite pastime.  Your imagination is the only boundary (and the dimensions of the room of course!)

'Tis the Season for Holiday Flair!

'Tis the season for chesnuts roasting on an open fire and for stockings to be hung on the mantel with care.  In this holiday season, warmth, laughter, and gathering with friends and family are the highlights of the season.  Here are a few ways to decorate your home with cheer!

Accentuate your built-ins with cheerful goodies.  From cone like Christmas trees near the TV to stockings hung from a shelf.  Make your built-in the focal point of the family room this holiday season!

Even staircases can showcase the beauty of the holidays.  Garland can make stair rails look elegant while bringing the outdoors...in.

Make any mantel look fabulous this Christmas with a more natural look.  Neutral tones that are accentuated by deep reds and greens, make this room look peaceful and elegant.

Don't forget to make the outside of your home beautiful as well.  Although decorating the outside of the Biltmore estate (or any home for that matter) may be an undertaking, the outcome is welcoming and beautiful.

Overall, make your home joyous by adding your own holiday flair!
We hope you have a wonderful holiday season filled with joy and blessings and don't forget to light the fire with care!

A Spirit of Thankfulness: Living Rooms

This week, we have decided to show our thankfulness for warm living areas.  So often, many go without homes.  Those of us who do have warm homes, have the opportunity to extend hospitality to those around us.  With these things in mind, there are three particular items for which we are thankful.

1. A warm gathering place to host friends and loved ones

Living rooms are the perfect place for guests to rest, relax, and catch up on past memories and present plans.  A living room with detail and finishing touches can be inviting and lovely as guests gather near the fireplace and mantel while the weather is brisk and chilly.

2. The ability to have fun and entertain

What's a gathering with friends without some games to play or movies to watch?  Built-ins can be an eye catching and effective way to store and hide your board games and movies.  Allow those built-ins to contain the clutter while you and your guests quarrel over whether a word is or is not in the dictionary.

3. Beauty

Lastly, we are thankful for beauty. From a wall full of windows, we have the opportunity to gaze at and admire nature.  Within our homes, beauty is often present as well.  A coffered ceiling, a gorgeous mantel, detailed trim, or sophisticated columns can add beauty to any area of your home.

We have much to be thankful for.  Let's keep in mind all that we have and be generous to those who have little.

A Thankful Spirit: Beds, Clothing, and Memories

With the arrival of November also comes the arrival of a thankful spirit.  November (and the holidays) are a time to reflect on all that we have and to give to those that are less fortunate.  In light of this this, I want to start the month by reflecting on a few things that we have to be thankful for...

1. Warm Bed

Beds are wonderful.  They offer a cozy place to rest our heads each night.  Beds come in a variety of shapes and sizes and can even be dressed up with the right headboard.

Here are unique headboards to consider for your sleepy retreat.

This headboard is made from an old mantel.  So unique!

2. Clothing

Clothing is definitely a reason to be thankful.  Aside from providing warmth and protection, it also is an avenue to show the unique personality of each individual.  With this in mind, be sure to take good care of what clothing you do have.

Closets provide space to keep your clothing from getting squished, damaged, or dirty.

3. Memories

This day and age we have the opportunity to travel.  We are able to visit with loved ones and explore new places.  Our experiences mold us.  Usually, all we are left with are memories, pictures, and souvenirs.

Be sure to display those memories!!

Built-Ins, even in the bedroom, can be a wonderful way to remind us not to forget our pasts.  Use built-ins for books, souvenirs, pictures, or any other trinket or treasure.

Nooks and Crannies!

Everyone needs their own spot.  A place to relax, rejuvenate and get away from it all.  Sure, it's wonderful to share time with family, friends, children and other busy and loud individuals but wouldn't be nice to have a designated area just for you?

Cushioned window seat idea!

May we suggest getting your own nook.  What's a nook you ask?

A nook is a built-in space in your home.  It can take on many different forms, from a window seat to a small bed or seating area in a master bedroom, study, loft or even off your guest room.  The key is to look for a quiet space where you are secluded in a quiet and serene area that is somewhat closed off and away from all the buzz of your everyday life.

Sometimes Nooks can be made for two people to chat, have a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and catch up.  There is just something quaint about a built in space that encompasses you or one other person for a romantic retreat or some much needed quality time.

Seating inspiration on a staircase

Woodmaster Woodworks Inc can make your nook or any other built dream space come true!
